Welcome to the home of BBQ Bears!
A whole new look at the world's favorite collectable critter.

What it's all about

Our story starts about 10 years ago, when an artist named Susy Fisher set about creating a Christmas gift for her Step-Dad that he couldn't get anywhere else. "Papa Chuck" Dunn collected bears so Susy decided to sculpt a small bear from clay and have her husband Paul, a model maker, make a mold off of it and cast one for Papa Chuck at Christmas.

That first bear was quite a hit, and became the first in a series of Christmas bears, which became BBQ Bears. The name is no mistake, as it not only reflects the humorous style of Susy's art, but also commemorates Papa Chucks' real claim to fame; his highly incendiary "Tennessee Style" Pork Barbeque, which was known far and wide as a meal to remember. Over the years numerous friends and family members have suggested that BBQ Bears be made available to bear collectors everywhere, and now, with a little help from our friends, we're making that a reality.

Papa Chuck

Unfortunately Papa Chuck is not with us to see his BBQ Bears introduced to the world. He was diagnosed with cancer in 1999 and we lost him this year. Susy is committed to continuing to produce BBQ Bears with the same humor and style that Papa Chuck loved. Like any good BBQ Sauce, there's a little honey, and a fair bit of vinegar in each one. We think Papa would be proud.

Where to get them

You can ask for BBQ Bears at your favorite gift shop. If they don't have them, once you've recovered from the shock tell them to look us up and we'll be happy to help.

Really, really happy.

You can get other BBQ Goodies right here on our web-site, like our ultra-classy Tee Shirts, and a coffee mug that your friends will steal immediately, but you can only get the Bears from gift shops. For more info, see the BBQ Goodies Page, or check out our list of dealers. If you have a store and want to be a dealer, please sign up on our dealers' page, or call us.

Who we are

BBQ Bears started on a corner of Susy's workbench in the model shop where she works with her husband Paul. Together they own and operate a small company making scale models of racing cars, ships and airplanes for customers around the world. They have been in the model business since 1978, and you can see what they do at the Fisher Models web site www.fishermodels.com.

In early 2000, Susy and Paul decided to team up with their friends John and Kathy Johnson to form a company to produce BBQ Bears on a somewhat larger scale so bear lovers everywhere could get in on the act. The four of us are BBQ Bears LLC, and we'll be here bringing you bears that are distinctly different from now on. We hope you'll love them as much as we do.
