The Artist - Susy Fisher

Born in 1960, Susy Fisher grew up in Southern California like a lot of kids…. watching TV and movies. The humorous parodies of stage and screen stars that show up in her creations have their roots in her childhood. Her father played "Baby Dumpling " in the Blondie and Dagwood movies, and also appeared in numerous films including the classic "It's A Wonderful Life", with Jimmy Stewart. Her grandfather was a prominent Hollywood poster artist and storyboard man.

Susy began expressing her artistic side early on with pen and ink, and then watercolors. Later, working in the model making business with her husband Paul (they manufacture models of historic racing cars) she decided to try working in three dimensions, and it wasn't long before she began creating her unique bears.

Perhaps all the more amazing, Susy has no formal art training, working simply with her natural talent and inspiration, so it's no surprise that her work is so original in concept. She is happiest when surrounded by her children (she has two, James and Allison), their friends and her pets that run the gamut from a macaw, 2 Great Danes, a Pug, a miniature donkey and horse, 2 cats and whatever else sneaks in the yard. Susy's love for sculpting bears comes from her Step-Dad, "Papa Chuck" Dunn, whose enormous bear collection, and wry sense of humor were the inspiration for BBQ Bears. She lives with her family in Paradise, California.
